FORMATIONS

‘Formations’ is an early body of work that explores parts of the human experience through connections with nature. The work engages in a dialogue between the sculptural forms made and materials that have been found. The forms are a cast of a pregnant abdomen that has been recast and reshaped over and over-again using porcelain, resulting in ambiguous shapes and organic forms, along with a collection of rocks that hold the work together. There is a sense of both lightness and heaviness to the work as the fragile forms balance upon the strength of the rocks. Much like the earth and our fragile bodies upon it.
